Jake Fromm isn't draft eligible, is he?With what draft capital and what QB is worth having in this class? I mean I like Herbert and Thorson as much as the next guys but you aren't going to develop anyone behind this oline.
It's a win-win to at least see what he has. You save a lot of money if you cut Joe and if he still looks somewhat salvageable, you keep him and just go for oline and a RB and still have a complete team. I think if Flacco finishes the year strong, which he's been prone to doing in December, he's here to stay even with the contract and even if Harbaugh goes down. I don't think Lamar is as ready as Mahomes was, even if I really like the guy and think he's a future franchise QB.
I still think it's too early to say the season is over. The team is wildly inconsitent, but I think if we beat Pittsburgh next week there's a solid chance we make the wild card. Which makes this entire conversation moot.
Herbert is the one I'd be interested in most of all, but I'd also have to think about looking at Bridgewater potentially. I'm sure he's going to be looking for a situation for a one year prove it deal. Would he come cheaper than Joe's cap savings? I'm not sure. I don't know, but I do think he has franchise quarterback potential.
But if you were to release Flacco, Jimmy, and Carr, you'd be saving around $25M. Before any rollover, the Ravens have $35M in cap next year (estimated value). Let's say they roll over $5M; that puts the Ravens at $65M with those releases (although, $35M in money might be a reason the Ravens DON'T release those players; the Ravens aren't hurting for cap.) That's enough money for a new coach to go out and get his guys and start building his foundation.
