2019 WR Thread

1st round is always BPA so I'm not counting on it. I wouldn't hate a Clellin Ferell or a Erik McCoy.
I just don’t see the clelin Ferrell hype and I thought he was massively overrated when he was consistently projected top 10, I see a late first round project and i don’t think I’d want us to be the team who takes on that project. I see a lot of Kevin Dodd with him, who I was really high on unfortunately, but the whole playing with all athleticism size and power and honestly offering nothing more is troubling to me when he comes from a STACKED line like Clemson’s, seems like he may have coasted on athleticism and benefitted from playing with Wilkins, Lawrence, and Bryant.

There's a world of difference between Ferell and Dodd in terms of technique and hand usage. He did get a lot of one on ones but that doesn't tell the whole story. Not a lot of players (if any) did Jonah Williams like he did.

I wonder if Jalen Hurd ran today at baylors pro day. No combine cause of a knee scope procedure. I think he’s raw but got massive upside

Brett Kohlmann on D.K. Metcalf

I've had this opinion of Metcalf for awhile. If Marty were still here I wouldn't want us to draft him at all because Marty wouldn't use him right. I'm okay with us drafting him now. Marty never effectively utilized our personnel to the best of it's ability.

absolutely agree. Marty didn't effectively use the middle of the field. Heck, he didn't use any part of the field effectively

I tried to get a better understanding of this WR class and read different rankings. DJ hasn't ranked Butler and in Brugler's ranking he's WR9.
Why is his stock so low? Do you think he'll have a tough time separating from cbs? If you question his routes go on youtube there's a 2017 tape analysis.

It's a very wide open WR class. Tons of different profiles and every scout/team will have different rankings. Butler will be WR1 for some and WR10 for others. The same holds true for Harmon, Brown (both), Campbell, hell even Metcalf to some degree.

There isn't a player in this draft that scares me more than Hakeem Butler. You want a guy that gives me Perriman flashbacks, Butler does. Body catcher. Problems withe routes itself. I wouldn't touch him and I will be seriously concerned if we draft him.

Teams I could see Metcalf really succeed on(that could realistically draft him). Because there's little doubt in my mind that we draft him if he's there.

Lions: They've had a much more talented WR athletically before, but they know how to get the best out of their WR talent. Good compliment to Marvin Jones too.
Broncos: They have Flacco... Do I have to elaborate on why this would be a good idea?
Packers: They are set at WR with Adams as their #1, but even if he's not going to be a good HC, their OC does know how to utilize talent
Steelers: Haha.. We'd all die
Us: Good run blocker, would force defenses to declare zone most of the time since Metcalf can eat press coverage alive. AT WORST a really good deep threat

In that 2017 draft full of good looking running backs. I called Kamara being the best. In this draft I have the same feeling about JJAW.

Curious who you guys comp him to? Coming out and in the league?

Alshon Jeffrey maybe? Lacking in explosion and deep speed, but plays the deep ball as well as anyone, great at stacking and positioning, good feet for beating press and sneaky decent route runner. Or maybe Allen Robinson who does a lot of the same?

something I’m noticing about Parris Campbell is that he influences coverages and creates soft spots by slightly altering his route, something Calvin Ridley did very well. A lot of times when Campbell works out of the slot they send him deep, but he often works inside a little before breaking upfield and he draws safeties inside and makes LBs cheat up as if they’re expecting a drag or some other crosser. I don’t know if this is play design or what, but it doesn’t appear to be, most of this looks like conscious efforts by Campbell to create space.

If this is Campbell’s own creativity and not just play design that I’m seeing, then that’s encouraging, because Campbell is very raw but it would show he’s got some know how and craftiness.

This guys really growing on me, but again i wouldn’t even consider him if we didn’t have an offense that could use him better than anyone, he’s a dangerous ballcarrier and this offense could maximize that and make him a real weapon, not to mention he’s a big time speed weapon, dudes a threat to score on any snap, if he can become a slightly better hand catcher and work on his route tree then he could become s really good #2 for the right team

I understand your fears. But Perriman pls... drops weren't his only problem when he was with us. the dude was a psychological wrack (injuries, Tray Walker and his father). Butler for the most part has no problems with tracking the ball. He played more from the slot in 2017 because of Lazard and he had no significant issues running short routes.

If we trade down Ridley and Samuel would be the best options at WR. Both have a floor of mid tier WR2, and possibly a WR1. Grab one of them and then someone like Sills, Meyers, Mclaurin, or Slayton later on. Along with Snead it could give us a decent WR trio to go along with Andrews and Hurst.

Perriman was also not a good route runner - was consistently outperformed in that regard by chris moore - he struggles to stack receivers and beat press - corners found it way too easy to negate his speed by redirecting him closer to the boundary

the only thing I'm afraid about with Deebo is his injury history. I could see him having a lot of hamstring issues in college and he is one of if not my favorite WR prospects in the 2019 class.

Another WR I like, but project him as a big slot in the NFL is AJ Brown. He is probably the safest WR in this draft and I do feel he will be a successful receiver that will do well, but again as a big slot. I wouldn't be upset if we drafted him.
