I think we don't resign Maxx in either case. He provided way too little for a 2nd rounder (we gave another pick to move up for him) and has largely been a disaster. Not to mention, Golden went to Arizona with that pick trade. This, although I think it's much more an indication of Boyle's cost than it is Maxx's. If we were to sign Allen, I do still think Maxx would be a possibility after he tests the market and sees what's out there.
As soon as it was reported that Boyle is expected to have 20 teams interested, I kind of figured we'd be looking for our blocking TE elsewhere. We just spent a 1st and a 3rd on TEs last year, so clearly we don't want to invest more draft capital or a somewhat large contract. Allen makes a ton of sense - available now before the rush, won't count against the comp picks, and likely won't be very expensive. It's a good fit. You can't control timing so it looks worse on the surface, but I would also wager that we already kind of knew he was going to be cut, had an amount in mind, and just did the work to make sure he came here first. Not much time investment into him, as today's meeting is probably all with coaches and less with FO personnel.
From my maybe a little bit biased opinion, if you're a middle of the pack TE, this is where you want to be right now. No one else uses TE as much as we do from top to bottom of the depth chart.

I love tyrann but i gotta admit youre correct.. same with haha. Our best bet may be drafting a SI didn't watch the Texans a lot but I saw the Eagles Texans game. And the honey badger didn't look good in coverage. Plus we don't sign or draft LSU alumni
they didn't let him go, they traded him to the Eagles by swapping 3rd round picks.
I would quite like him here, would be a welcomed change from our typically slow ILB pair to have a converted safety who is actually good, still far from sold on peanutMark barron just got released
The Weddle cut just increased the chances of signing MosleyOkay so no Weddle OR Mosley would be REALLY bad for the Ravens D. Defense needs a brain on the field and that was Mosley and Weddle.
and keeping Jimmy. It will be interesting if we cut both of themThe Weddle cut just increased the chances of signing Mosley
