The Offseason Thread

This, although I think it's much more an indication of Boyle's cost than it is Maxx's. If we were to sign Allen, I do still think Maxx would be a possibility after he tests the market and sees what's out there.

As soon as it was reported that Boyle is expected to have 20 teams interested, I kind of figured we'd be looking for our blocking TE elsewhere. We just spent a 1st and a 3rd on TEs last year, so clearly we don't want to invest more draft capital or a somewhat large contract. Allen makes a ton of sense - available now before the rush, won't count against the comp picks, and likely won't be very expensive. It's a good fit. You can't control timing so it looks worse on the surface, but I would also wager that we already kind of knew he was going to be cut, had an amount in mind, and just did the work to make sure he came here first. Not much time investment into him, as today's meeting is probably all with coaches and less with FO personnel.

From my maybe a little bit biased opinion, if you're a middle of the pack TE, this is where you want to be right now. No one else uses TE as much as we do from top to bottom of the depth chart.
I think we don't resign Maxx in either case. He provided way too little for a 2nd rounder (we gave another pick to move up for him) and has largely been a disaster. Not to mention, Golden went to Arizona with that pick trade.

He certainly never lived up to his draft status, but I'd definitely argue that he still has value, although you could argue his only real value is here. He's turned into a good blocker, decent receiver, and has that H-Back/TE versatility. Of course, after the various injuries and knee surgery, his speed is sapped, but I would absolutely take him back as the TE4. I don't see him securing much more than a cheap 1-2 year deal.

I didn't watch the Texans a lot but I saw the Eagles Texans game. And the honey badger didn't look good in coverage. Plus we don't sign or draft LSU alumni

I love tyrann but i gotta admit youre correct.. same with haha. Our best bet may be drafting a S

I’m glad we cut Weddle . Let me know if you can think of a single big play he made all season . Yeah , thought so .
Stat of the year : Free Safety with ZERO interceptions this year because he’s slow as molasses to the ball .

Sucks to see Weddle go from a personal perspective, but I think it was the right move for the team. He's clearly lost a step. Mentally he's still there, but that extra gear is gone.

I wouldn't be completely shocked to see him test the market and return at a lower amount in a few weeks, though. Not what I want to see, but I could see it happening.

I think it’s funny that Rotoworld called Weddle highly productive. He had a down year for him and what would be an average year for any safety. 3 PD and 0 INT and 50ish solo tackles is OK. Mentally and personally he was great but it’s not hard to see why he’s gone.

Okay so no Weddle OR Mosley would be REALLY bad for the Ravens D. Defense needs a brain on the field and that was Mosley and Weddle.

Called this before the 2018 season began. 2019 is going to be a tough year. This roster is a mess right now, but I think DeCosta is doing what needs to be done.
