The Bad, The Ugly, and the Pathetic

not paying peanut, jimmy and carr are old. McpHee is cheap from here on end. Levine will be 34

gotta move on
Levine is a special teams ace and a serviceable dime backer. 1 or 1.5m are cheap for a proven commodity.
Carr is a solid CB veteran who is dependable. There is no reason to release/not pick up the option.

The thing is, we are calling for more playing time for Elliott at his position, not ILB.
For a box safety there isn't that big of a difference between being a coverage ilb and a SS. Regardless of what you call him, putting Elliot in the middle of the defense is a good idea. He definitely has more upside than Peanut.

He's just not big enough for that and has the ball skills much better utilised at the safety position. What we need is a real ILB, so that Peanut can go back to his real role - to weak side.

We are just playing lot of guys out of their normal spots, no wonder there's confusion and inability to do the job all around.

I'd let Jimmy and Peanut walk and take his 6m option, which is cheap. He's better on the outside anyway and gives a little flexibility. Levine is also worth paying also for his nickel role.

these are our opinions and you're entitled to them as much as we are. Carr had a very good year last year and is giving us much needed help in the slot as well on the outside this year. Is it a perfect scenario, absolutely not.

And those are valid points.

My point is you've now identified at least 3 starters, on just the defense, that you will need to replace via the draft or FA.

And we haven't made mention of the unimpressive defensive line, any of the other linebackers on the roster (where we obviously need upgrades), how comfortable anybody is going to be with a $12.6M cap hit for Tony Jefferson next year, adding at least 1-2 more corners for depth.

And we haven't gotten to the offense yet, of which I'm sure everybody will be wanting at least 1-2 upgrades to the Oline (and that's assuming Yanda comes back). And Snead, Roberts and Moore are all FAs, so you basically have two WRs on the roster.

That's like 10 replacement players, all with key roles.

2 year project, at a minimum, from where I sit. And fans won't be happy in 2020 if even one of those positions isn't addressed. See current year reactions to the glaring holes from this offseason that weren't filled.

And i'm not even suggesting we should or shouldn't do any of this. I'm suggesting this is the point where realistic expectations about where upgrades will come and where they won't should be set.

I agree that the fans are extremely impatient. This is going to take a couple years, but if we can remain competitive while we are getting better, then I can wait. I've been watching football for longer than most of you and am used to this. We need to have free agency and draft with mainly the defense and some offensive players scattered in. The offense is young and with Lamar should continue to get better and better. I believe some trades will be in the works as well.

I gotta say. I'm still pretty hyped about this team. Even if our defense is middle of the road quality our offense under Lamar is fun as hell to watch.

Gonna be a lot of back and forth battles, and if our defense does play well we must likely win unless Lamar has a bad game. Which he did vs the Chiefs and we only lost by 5 so....

All our defense has to do is not be bottom half of the league

Lol, that sounds like what we've been posting between SB win and 2018, D and offense just swapped roles.

I just want a complete team for once. Is that too much to ask for?

no such thing as a complete team, but I get what you are saying.

It's weird.....first time ever I think our offense is better than our defense. If Flacco was playing wed be 1-3 most likely
