General Draft Thoughts

expect the worst, hope for the best... maybe...
Yup, I kinda feel like Eric likes to make sexy picks early on, he could’ve definitely made moves for the OL last year but opted to trade up for Boykin instead, and then there was hollywood, and I think Lamar was Eric’s pick as much as it was Ozzie’s while I think Hurst was more Ozzie’s guy. Pure conjecture here btw. But yeah, Murray just kinda strikes me as a player Eric would take over a guy like Ruiz

It will certainly be interesting to see how it plays out!! I'm thinking that EDC expects that our offensive dominance will be hard to just continue without constant improvement. I'd be happy to make just a friendly wager that we take an offensive player round 1. I don't know why I feel so strongly about that.

Ok so I just started by watching a highlights clip of Murray before starting to watch some game tape and dude.... Is it just me or does Murray legitimately have the worst tackling firm you have ever seen. This guy is consistently throwing people around by their necks and when he's not he is either just jumping on them, or running directly into them basically upright. The form is so bad it's almost unbelievable.

Because there were LBs on the market that would’ve been good fits and had we went that route instead of brockers, we could’ve afforded them.

now, it feels like we’re gonna go after the guy that the entire world has been mocking to us for basically the whole offseason, because we didn’t address it when we could and it happens so often. Jimmy/Torrey, upshaw, Elam, mosley, hurst/lamar, and hollywood, were all extremely popular mocks to the ravens, quite possibly the “consensus” mock each of their respective years.

I mean tbf the ravens are the least leaky of any organisation around draft time so any mocking of Murray is speculation

I’m only worried because I always expect the worst but I don’t actually think it’ll happen

I don’t know that I agree with that - but I do think he’s more aggressive moving around the board to get the guy he wants at the spot he thinks gets us best value

Just reading the last couple of pages including this one is the very reason why I CAN NOT wait for the draft next month.

Yup, and the problems are just starting with him. Notice how he starts to play against power blocking schemes with moving blockers, he is lost, he can’t read formations or blocking schemes or determine where to fill, and even worse wait til you see him have to stack a blocker to create a jam, he looks like he might actually be scared to the way he gets happy feet and gets timid

I hope it turns out like Stanley draft year

I'm doing more and more mock drafts and the more I do, the more i think @Edgar is right - the WRs will be gone by the time we get to the 55th pick - if we dont get one in round 1 we wont be getting one in round 2 without a significant trade up

in general that 50-60 range seems to be where the talent is dropping off too - you'd hope to get someone you like more in the 2nd round

when using the mock draft machines those picks are great because great talent falls - i think come draft night we're potentially going to find ourselves at the back end of the talent tier left with an empty shelf and trying to trade down if we're still there...

I agree. Going anything but WR or Ruiz could hurt us. There’s no other option at C I really trust and I fully think these WRs are gonna be valued and we’re not gonna have a “we can get a wr in R2 because the class is deep” thing happen where there’s the opposite of a run of WRs. That happened last year but these guys are much better and will just not be passed up.

If Ruiz and queen are gone, and even a guy like Higgins was the best wr available, that’s a pick I might make.

Guys. This is my Perriman, Elam bracket. We cannot waste this draft pick on Murray.
Big12 defenders these days are usually not worthy of a 1st round pick. Arthur Brown says hello.
@rossihunter2 and edgar I'm totally with you. This wr class might be deep, but it never hurts to draft top end talent.
Ruiz im not sure when's the last we drafted iOL high? Yanda and Grubbs? Osemele, Stanley and Oher were all OTs.
The FO is probably higher on Skura than we are.
