sounds like the deal mentions very specifically a suspension (and not fines) as reasoning so our best bet is that someone signs him for 10m or whatever and it wipes out the need to file the grievance in the first place
I dont really give two shits about Earl Thomas, he was a merc and acted like one but he was damn good at stopping QBs from passing over the middle.
If we luck out and can somehow replace that then great, but his skillset doesnt grow on trees and our safeties sure as hell don't have it. The issue now is we need a solution to a problem we didn't have a few days ago.
no the grievance would still be useful for the other guarantees in his contract beyond this years salarysounds like the deal mentions very specifically a suspension (and not fines) as reasoning so our best bet is that someone signs him for 10m or whatever and it wipes out the need to file the grievance in the first place

thank you for clarifyingI don't think we have much claim to the signing bonus at this point. Only guarantee left that is unpaid is his 2020 base salary so that's really the only battle.

Another rest day for Lamar’s arm. Hope he’s all good obviously. MP watching from sidelines
So a little more clarity on the grievance/offset stuff from Brian McFarland...
Once the grievance is officially filed, 40% of it ($4M in our case) goes to the dead cap. So we'll save $6M on this year's cap no matter what. If the grievance is successful and it's determined that we do owe Earl that money, it would hit in 2021. If we win the grievance, there's a $4M credit on the 2021 cap.
Regarding the offset language, that's a little trickier. While whatever he signs for elsewhere would be subtracted from the $10M, that won't be subtracted immediately. It sounds like we won't know the extent of offsets until after the season. My one question would be if a guaranteed base salary from another team could change that process a little bit. Basically, no immediate cap gains here.
Unfortunately that’s the long and short of it. You don’t get to this point without earning it.None of the analysis on his play matters - if his teammates want him gone he just has to go. It's that or tank the whole season with a broken locker room.
yeah i was just reading that too - my guess is that unless a team guarantees any of his salary this year we won't see any immediate relief (outside of the potential 6m while the grievance is disputed) until the end of the year because as mcfarland, and others, have stated offset stuff is tallied against what's actually made by the player not the 17 week number
either way it's a potential boost to the 2021 cap when there might be a significant drop and it might help us out then
And Dobbins has put up multiple highlights in the few minutes I've been watching TC live.
