something that hasnt been talked about with ngakoue is that we are adding another guy whos had a nose for the football throughout his career, another threat to force a fumble and this time from the edge, if that plays out 2-3 times this year thats huge, could really turn some games when we need a spark, could decide some huge games, nothing decides games quite like turnovers and we may rely on them a bit so adding another guy who excels at it is major

As soon as the trade deadline was getting closer to approach, you KNEW it was that time so let's bring it back!

we wouldnt have patrick queen though

that was the cost for us - patrick queen and whoever we get in round 1 next year

It's also difficult to imagine we could have signed both Ramsey and Humphrey long term, as we did Peters and Humphrey.

I'd be interested in hearing thoughts on this signing versus having Clowney. We would have had to give up a pick(s) to Jacksonville for Clowney, though I can't remember if it was disclosed what that pick might be. Certainly, Yannick wouldn't be coming here if we had Clowney.

If we let Judon walk or traded him I would’ve preferred clowney, since we have a 3down OLB I like ngakoue more as the pure speed rusher.

i wanna see nickel with bowser on the field, like a 5-1 with bowser standing up on the edge and a safety playing the backer role. ngakoue, campbell, mcphee, judon, and bowser standing, use him for the deception, he can rush or drop very well and has to be accounted for. dangerous package in obvious pass situations, that 5 man rush would be lethal, the 4 man rush would be effective and the coverage would be lockdown, and the backer can blitz as well(seeing how elliott and clark both blitz very well).

i think our go to dime package for 3rd and long is going to look like this - lots of racecar:

Judon, Campbell, McPhee, Bowser, Ngakoue, Clark, Elliott, Humphrey, Peters, Jimmy, Gilchrist

but we may see more nickel where you replace gilchrist with Patrick Queen and Mcphee with another DL - probably brandon williams or derek wolfe but could be madubuike

lots of variation available to us right now

i think it was expected clowney would be a 2nd rounder (or in that realm of compensation) - similar type compensation to this

Obviously we’re now tight against the cap so any moves we make have to take that into account so I’m mostly just bouncing off the idea that we’re not done pre-trade deadline based solely on EDC’s final sentence of his statement that we’re not done improving our team

Dante Pettis is not being used hardly at all by the 49ers whose season is potentially in the tank in that division

2 years left on his rookie deal and he’d have less than 800k of his deal left to be paid this year

just a thought - not sure what the compensation would need to be though but he’s just been “made available” by the 49ers so they’re in a sellers position which means unless there’s high demand for him he might not cost a ton in draft capital

I’m not sure we will trade for an OL to be honest despite everyone and their moms and dads wanting one. I think that it would be at TE or WR if we made a trade for another player because while OL has been an issue we also have 10 guys on the roster there at that position. I think we would likely cut someone at WR than OL. I’m also not convinced we bench Skura got Mack. You also have to wonder that any OL from whom we trade will likely come at a premium cost and also take time to acclimate into the system and learn the calls.

OL may be the hardest position to add in the middle of a season honestly. There’s a lot that goes into it.

Is it just me or is a OL a major need in the first half of the season every year only to not be a need in the back half on the season?

OL is the hardest position to add at any point of time - it's why i dont mind us constantly drafting guys because if you hit on a starter in day 3 (which we have repeatedly done) it's a massive boone to your offence

exactly - and there's all sorts of obvious reasons why this year would be no exception to that improvement too... skura coming of the knee surgery has been getting better with every week (had a bad game against the eagles but the previous weeks had been doing pretty well), a rookie at RG in tyre phillips who has steadily been improving although his run blocking has a long way to go and orlando brown suddenly not having marshal yanda next to him and trying to build chemistry with a struggling rookie

tons of ingredients there that should improve with time

How about a speedy WR then? Is that a possibility in your view? We need one other really fast WR to stretch the field if defenses focus on Hollywood. That would really stress defenses on 1st and 2nd downs.

im not sure we need someone to stretch the field, more we need someone who can win quickly in the down with their release like hollywood does

if we just want someone to stress a defence by running go routes then we've got boykin and duvernay who can run the top off a defence easily

Yeah that’s the thing I don’t even know if we need speed because Roman isn’t calling those deep throws and LJ hasn’t hit on them as much as he should either. As Rossi kinda said I think we just need sure hands more than anything and some good routes. I think Duvernay can give us the speed if it’s called.

Honestly I’d rather just sign AB and be done with it.
