I think way too much is read into who starts these pre season games. It means little or nothing to the pecking order of the roster, other than to the guys that don't play at all. Often they just want to get more of a look at guys that haven't been around as long as others, or guys that may already be on the bubble.

There’s certainly some level of pecking order to it. Not always meaningful, but not always meaningless. Think Hill over Gus would be meaningless if not for multiple reporters saying this has been the theme through camp.

I think Kelly's spot is in jeopardy considering he was behind guys like Swann yesterday. Also, the team has had a bit shorter leash on draft picks lately so I don't think that would save him

Swann was a slot exclusive while Kelly was outside exclusive. Swann only came in because Amos got hurt and they had to use Ar’Darius back at S again.

And btw, fuck the new gamepass on DAZN. How the hell can the NFL go with a provider that is incapable of basic video editing skills? If they don't get their shit together for the regular season, I'll ask for my money back

My thoughts are that Gus is a lock, already proven as a possible starter. Hill on the bubble if not for his ST play, let’s see what he’s got. Kinda like starting JJ, get a look and see if it’s him or maybe Brown that signs to the PS. Obviously, Snoop is head and shoulders above both and looks to be QB2.

Yeah, I think Hill is a lock too, but that's kind of what I was getting at yesterday too. Let Hill get in there to show he's maybe the legit #2 instead of the #3 I thought yesterday. IDK. But I think anyone outside of those three guys - Dobbins, Hill, and Gus are bubble guys. Can't imagine that even being used after Hill, Gus is auditioning for a role.

Based on usage and game entry, looks like the following have basically 0 shot at the roster as of now

QB Anthony Brown
RB Owen Wright
WR Dontay Demus
WR Shemar Bridges
OL Tashawn Manning
OL Jaylon Thomas
OL Jake Guidone
OL TyKeem Doss
DL Trey Botts
DL Kai Caesar
CB Corey Mayfield

Probably a few other guys too, but they were in earlier due to depth concerns. But basically if you aren't getting into a preseason game until Q4, it ain't good for you.

Saw some beat writer tweets during the game tonight that Hill has certainly been treated like he’s above Gus based on practice and now game reps. Still probably can’t draw any conclusions about that yet, but does make you wonder is Gus isn’t as much of a fit for the Monken offense.
I doubt it, but one thing to consider is we are running more of a zone scheme vs the Roman power based scheme

Hill is not even close to a bubble guy at this point. Absolute lock.
Probably, but mostly because of his ST play. If JK is RB1, then then I think Hill is still in competition with Gordon and Mitchell for RB3, albeit probably ahead of those 2.

Ok gonna try again.

QB: Lamar, Snoop
RB: JK, Justice, Gus, Keaton, Pat
TE: Mark, Isaiah, Charlie
WR: Odell, Rashod, Zay, Nelson, Duv, Tylan
OL: Ronnie, John, Tyler, Kevin, Morgan, Patrick, Sala, Sam, Daniel

DL: Michael, Justin, Brody, Travis, Brent
OLB: David, Odafe, Tyus, Tavius, Clowney
ILB: Ro, PQ, Trenton, Harrison, DelShawn
DB: Marlon, Rock, William Jackson, Arthur, JAD, KBK, Brandon, Geno, Marcus, Kyle

Notable misses!
Anthony Brown, Josh Johnson, Melvin Gordon, Ben Cleveland, Treadwell

Angelo Blackson, Kristian Welch, Josh Ross, Ardarius Washington, Kevin Seymour, Daryl Worley
Doesn't look far off.

If he keeps looking good, I might be tempted to keep Vokolek on the 53 and go with 5 WRs, on the basis that none of the WR6 candidates are particularly special. If we lose one off the PS, oh well, there's more where he came from. If everyone's healthy, they wouldn't get many snaps on offense with so many mouths to feed in the passing game as it is.

I can’t see Hill ahead of Gus, unless Gus is injured.

And doesn’t hurt that Hill has improved pretty greatly in the last couple of years, at least in the limited action he’s gotten. Always had the speed and burst, but seems to have developed some vision as well. Used to be a get to the outside corner no matter what guy. Now he’s not afraid to bounce if he sees a lane.
It's so strange to see a RB having a Year 5 breakout. When does that ever happen?

I hope the Ravens aren't thinking of moving on from Gus however. They can't have forgotten how good he's been over the years.

Not just ST. He's become a much better runner over the last couple of years. Seemingly the only spot in question is whether he's RB2 or RB3. Neither Gordon nor Mitchell are competing with Hill - they're competing against each other for RB4 if we keep one.

lol, OK. You’re obviously very fond of Hill and that’s OK. But I think if you look at it objectively a healthy Gus Edwards is the proven and much better option.

It’s not me. It’s obvious and all of the beat writers are agreeing right now. Hill has been ahead of Edwards throughout camp.
