Yeah I was only there 2 years but it was a lot of fun. Brits pick up NFL teams for all kinds of reasons though. A friend of mine became a fan of the Browns because, in his words: "My football team is shit so my American football team might as well be shit as well." We do love an underdog lol.

Thats actually hilarious! Lol

@InternationalFlockMembers When you got into football, how did you get into the Ravens specifically?

Friend at school was a ravens fan (no idea why) and it was the 2009 or 2010 playoffs (I can’t remember which) and there was a weekly highlights program for the playoffs on the bbc and I saw the ravens defence looking so cool in those highlights packages that I just kept watching - ray lewis getting fired up in the huddle, guys swarming around and constantly moving around pre-snap and i thought it was super cool seeing these guys playing with a swagger that instantly told me they were good

so I started following them and looking them up whenever I would be casually watching

don’t think I was probably fully entranced as a proper “fan” until the 2011 playoffs

Thats awesome because you got a superbowl so early into your fandom!

I thought it would have been earlier than this for you! Even more impressed with your in depth knowledge of the game given that timescale. I know it's 10 years, but I've been watching for about 6 and I can barely name a passing concept lol.

it must have been the 2010 season because (i just checked) that was the first time since the 90s that the NFL and the superbowl were being broadcast

and dont worry - i really struggle with passing concepts too - really struggle with LB and safety keys too

i imagine those are the kinds of things that any randomer who played the game in school could probably understand (even if they suck at them)

in the same way that i can turn on the tv mid-game during any sort of rugby and immediately understand in detail what's going on all over the pitch at once because i grew up watching and playing it during my formative years and that stuff just sticks more easily

the detailed stuff i've picked up about the NFL is mostly based on draft stuff - which is more about projection which means that route concepts and stuff aren't as crucial to the evaluation of a player - so much of it is traits based and the minutiae of how i guy "wins" and that stuff i've found pretty easy to learn

watching the ravens running game every week though has massively helped my understanding of how running schemes work

Yeah I feel exactly the same about it - any football and rugby I can watch and just get. Don't have to think about it, it's just there from growing up playing and watching the game. To get there with the NFL I would have to study - which I don't have time to do. Or I guess wait a really long time until it slowly sinks in!

Part of the reason I like this board is that I can ground what I think I can see in a game against the opinions of some football-smart people who clearly understand the game better than the average fan.

Hey Niners, if you're unable to re-sign Trent Williams, we do have a solution to your issue. Wanna give us a couple of those picks?

What did culled say exactly?

From what Steve Wyce was saying on NFL Network: “[David Culley] said there’s nothing Lamar can’t do, and right now though they just run a system that kind of limits what he does in the passing game, but if they opened it up, he would be able to do that.”

He has to lack any self-awareness right? Does he not remember his role with the team the last 2 years?

Also begs the question what made the Texans even remotely interested in him lol?

He's the same guy who was the WR coach for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2014 when they had 0 Touchdowns by any receiver that year and probably thinks the Chiefs ran a system that limits the receivers ability to score touchdowns.

Rumor mill on the last question, Culley is a placeholder while they groom Josh McCown for the Head Coaching job.

This is a bit how it started for me also, but in 2000. A friend introduced me to the NFL by having me watch the Super Bowl between the Rams and the Titans. I immediately preferred the Titan's style of play. Next season, I was looking for the best defense to cheer for and I found out it was the Ravens. I followed them with Ray Lewis, Siragusa and that funny Dilfer up to the Super Bowl. In the following years, I tried to develop an interest for other teams, but nothing ever stuck. Leaving in Montreal, I could really choose any team to follow. I remember during the 2000 decade, just a handful of regular season games were broadcasted here, so I used to follow the play by play of each game on the internet. Can't believe it's been 20 years now and I'm 50... Lol, I don't spend a tenth of the time you guys spend on deciphering all aspects of the game, but I really enjoy following you since the time you were writing on baltimoreravens.com.
Now let's go steal Golladay from the Giant like we kicked their ass in 2000 ^_^ (experience tought me it won't happen though lol)

God I hope Dez exposes what's really going on, and I'll say this, if Roman is the problem then so is Harbs for holding onto yet another worthless coordinator.

I like Patrick queen, but damn it would’ve been nice if we drafted tee Higgins and then got zaven Collins in this draft
