Training Camp and the Preseason

I'm starting to think our 4th round pick Ben Powers will be the starting LG come week one in Miami.

I think some have forgotten how good webb was.

Good luck Lewis.

When Webby put it all together he had top 5 ability. I’ll never forget the pick in the 2011 playoffs against Brady. Was the type of play that made him worthy of the nickname Spider Webb.

Dude just didn’t have an NFL body. Sad to think about.

Okay now that Alex Lewis has been released, it's up to one of either Eluamanor or Powers to step into the starting LG role. I think Hurst makes sense as that critical plug in lineman at any position on the line. So it sucks that Lewis is gone but if you can't get on the field then you're no good to the team regardless of talent.

FO/Coaching Staff aren’t playing this year. Petty as hell they made him pass the physical and then cut him to send a message about what’s expected of Ravens while avoiding paying out the injury settlement (Rumor is he was cut because he rehabbed away from the team).

not petty - financially good - by making him pass a physical first we save money by not having to settle - he was due 2m because of performance escalators

this also tells me the ravens have a plan for how they plug the LG spot - either they have an idea of someone they can/will be able to bring in or they like what they have between powers and eluemunor

sounds to me (and zrebiec said this too) that the ravens want Hurst as the 6th OL and primary backup more than a starting lineman

Lisfrancs slow guys down in a major way, it takes away their extra gear, makes cutting labored and difficult, all of that. Without the sixth gear Hollywood is essentially useless, and along with that he’s at extreme risk of getting hurt if he’s an easier target, and even more so when you consider how much compensating he’ll have to do if he’s on the field prematurely and slower than he needs to be.

I’m on board with giving him a few early reps in PS week 3, I don’t want any player at risk to play in week 4 when it’s the camp bodies last ditch efforts to make a name, give him a few snaps in the first half of week 3, and maybe even use him very sparingly for the first month or so, this isn’t a jimmy smith situation where the guy doesn’t need that top gear to be good, Hollywood brown is 170 lbs and if he’s not outrunning everyone with ease then he’s in trouble
I memory is not what it used to be so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Jimmy struggle the season he came back from his foot surgery? I know everyone is different after surgery. Some come back as good as they were before and some guys like Webby and Foxworth really struggled. I hope Hollywood can still shift into overdrive and tach it up!

I was never a fan of Hurst ever since he got Joe injured. Was not a fan of us re-signing him. I just don't see what the FO sees in Hurst. He has not played well since suffering that broken leg and going undrafted. He was horrible as a Tackle and not much better as a Guard. He is one of the reasons I don't understand how they grade offensive lineman. I watch our games and see him get absolutely manhandled by a defensive lineman and then he would get a fairly decent grade and I would say to myself, "you got to be kidding me!"

the petty comment was in jest. it’s a shrewd move by the FO and Harbaugh. send a clear message on what the program is. alex lewis was a Harbaugh guy. no exceptions. you’re with us or you’re not.

real positive talk from steve wyche watching the joint practices - first drive the ravens came out passing, jackson 3-3 on that first drive through the air - ravens offence apparently looking a lot crisper than the jags offence so far - jackson only really scrambled with a qb run once which was in the redzone drills

really cool stuff to hear from completely unbiased sources

this from the baltimore reporters:

jonas shaffer:
Lamar Jackson looking sharp early. Just went 5-for-6 in 7-on-7 action, including a great throw up the seam to Jaleel Scott. WR Seth Roberts, quietly productive for the past week, has caught all three targets vs. top CB Jalen Ramsey, including two in 1-on-1s.

aaron kasinitz:
Strong start for Lamar Jackson in 7-on-7 drills against the Jaguars. He completed 5 of 6 passes in the first session. Best throw was a deep ball to Jaleel Scott. Seth Roberts (2), Mark Andrews and Hayden Hurst also caught passes.

Jimmy has even said, it should be different with Hollywood due to him knowing the route and Jimmy having to anticipate the route and react.

How we doing men? I always take a break from the end of the season to preseason. I'm excited for the coming year I think we will catch people by surprise this year the D should be even better in my opinion and Lamar seems to have developed some I'm excited. Hopefully we have a good season ahead of us
