2020 WR Draft Thread

Van Jefferson has that Keenan Allen vibe when I watch him run his routes. It’s so crisp. I keep drafting him in the 3rd in all the mock simulator lol. I don’t think he falls that far though.

I’m interested in how fast he’s going to run at the combine

I feel like Justin Jefferson is gonna fall on draft day, with this being such a great wr class, I think teams are gonna put a little too much stock in athletic profiles and potential early on, and Justin Jefferson is a guy who’s gonna fall by the wayside because he’s not gonna blow any minds in those aspects. Teams are gonna feel pressured to take the higher ceiling guys early and feel they can get the route runner type later on.

idk I just have this feeling the media is hyping him up more than the nfl is because of LSU and burrow, and while I love Jefferson as a prospect and I don’t doubt most teams would as well, I think the whole upside thing will hurt him.

I wouldn’t be shocked to see him available for our R2 pick.

it would be a similar mistake i think to the one teams made with michael thomas - he's a guy who has enough of an athletic profile to be a threat, is a really high quality route runner and consistently gets separation through various means

i wouldnt be surprised if he fell out of round 1 like you say because of the numerous athletes at the position

i would be surprised if he made it to our round 2 pick

Michael Thomas is exactly who I had in mind and is the guy I’m most reminded of by Jefferson. And yeah it would be a surprise but not a total shock, like I could see it happening even though its unlikely

I don’t watch a lot of LSU games. Who was the WR1 this year? Jefferson or Chase? I just remember Jefferson in that Oklahoma game with the 4 TDs

Mims's mindset is perfect for this offence - he has all the athletic gifts etc. that we'd want and he's clearly got better at his releases and route running even since the offseason started which is all a big positive in terms of his self-improvement

but even moreso specifically for the ravens offence he's not just a willing blocker he actively enjoys taking a defender's lunch money as a blocker - he relishes that fight in the same way he relishes beating them on a route and that's incredibly helpful if this offence continues to be a low target share offence but would get mims on the field more in a boykin kind of way

there's a lot of good receivers and lots who have different strengths but the difference between mims as a blocker and the rest of the class is astronomical

That and his contested catch ability is something we really need in this offense. Would keep him on the field rather than off depending how quick he gels with Lamar

So whoever comp'd Van Jefferson to Davante Adams or Keenan Allen needs to start some treatment. I don't even know how this started but let's just stop it and never talk about it again.

Mims is closer to Adams and Allen than Jefferson. Just totally different styles of play imo. Jefferson isnt nearly as physical as the other 2. I'd comp Jefferson to maybe Diggs but those other 2 seem a little off
I was just speaking of how they release from man coverage, Adams does a great job at breaking away entirely from tight man coverage using just a stutter step or 2 and then stepping on the gas. I wouldn’t say mims does that, he more outleverages throughout the entire route and separates more with his wingspan than footwork.

Tbf to mims he’s clearly been working on his releases since the end of the season because he came to the senior bowl with all sorts of things you don’t see on tape with regards to releasing and defeating press at the snap

Absolutely agree, just pointing out that the footwork based quick release isn’t exactly mims’ strong suit but it’s a big part of davante Adams game and van jefferson as well.

player comps aren’t meant to be taken literal lol
