2022 General Draft Thoughts

To me Davis is a clear tier above Travis Jones. There's a difference in raw power and Jones' burst off the line is nowhere close. Jones could be good in the NFL, but Davis has the ability to become an absolute monster.

I think that’s a good way of putting it:

Travis Jones might make some pro bowls and be thought of as a top 3-5 NT in the le as bye

Jordan Davis might become an all-pro despite being a NT

all this sean rhyan love is making me think i might have to go back and watch him again at some point because i did not like him at all when i watched him - currently got a 5th round grade on him and see him as exclusively an interior OL project
I like rhyan a lot. I think he’s got RT movement he’s just kinda short armed

its definitely a difficult question and this is partly why GM's make all the money - it's not actually that hard to scout players skillsets and abilities - the really tricky bit is about how you value certain skillsets, positions and how they fit and your philosophies on roster building

i just think a successful draft probably has us pick neither of them...
That last tidbit leads me to believe you’re very heavy on analytics lol

The way I see it, we have a lightweight LB who is an unquestioned starter, we have really good dbs and a logjam of strong safeties and guys who can fill multiple roles in nickel and dime, with Davis we can remove a LB and replace them with one of those safeties to fulfill those roles without the worry of them getting washed on early downs, so we still get rush and coverage on early downs without giving up chunks on the ground on first and second down, then when we get teams to third and long we rotate.

In essence, Brandon staleys approach, which I know you’re very high on. Jordan Davis is the only player available in any capacity that allows us to use our secondary to the max

i mean i do appreciate analytics a lot for sure in that i subscribe to the idea that you're looking for high-value positions in early rounds because that's where the biggest value is vs their contract but it's not like im ignoring my tape or my grades to come to that conclusion - kyle hamilton is still in my top 10 despite being a safety (just like kyle pitts was number 1 on my board last year at TE) - that being said i do fully admit that i can sometimes be biased against LBs and RBs and often am against TEs (i just do not enjoy watching college TE tape)

so jordan davis right now is 11-13 on my board which would suggest that it's highly likely he could be BPA at 14 when we pick - that last sentence in my post is very much based in a few contexts beyond just analytics:
1) that we would be missing out on the top 10 guys
2) that we have michael pierce on the roster already
3) positional value (the analytics part)

as for travis jones - point 1 might not apply (it's highly possible/probable that he'd be BPA on my board if he makes it to 45) but points 2 and 3 definitely still do

and just to be clear - im not arguing against the merits of either player - i do think they'd both help us and for exactly the reasons you say - if we pick them they will help our team immediately - i just think it's possible or probable that we might get more value out of other players at other positions

that's why i say a successful draft probably has us picking neither - it most likely means that we get a highly graded prospect at a more valuable position

Matt Rhule is about as on the hot-seat as it gets
the Panthers do not have a QB - if they do not find one, he will not make it to next season...

feels like they only have 2 options: Baker Mayfield or draft someone at 6...

they're paying very close attention to Kenny Pickett - they probably get their pick of the QBs at 6 - hopefully that's one of the QB spots we need to help drop someone down to us - and if they take someone at 6 then hopefully it helps speed up the QB market in the draft and other teams will have to trade up to get one

maybe ahead of the Falcons and Seahawks at 8 and 9 who both just traded away their franchise QBs and maybe even the texans at 10 too although they seem pretty fine with Davis Mills right now

That’s it. That’s all I needed to see. He’ll make for a perfect holder for Tucker!

Eagles not fully committed to Hurts?

2 years into his 4 year rookie deal

they've watched the same film we all have, hurts is a nice fantasy football QB but maybe not that good IRL... i think it's probably more of a case, if they take pickett, of really liking pickett, more than it is not liking hurts

hurts isnt good enough right now (and hasnt shown signs that he might be soon) that they shouldnt look to improve the position is the harsh reality of it
