2022 General Draft Thoughts

all of these reports help us even if the eagles dont take one (or arent even interested in one) because it makes those teams that do like him start thinking they need to get up ahead of the eagles and that means either they want to trade with us at 14 (and QB trades give up extra draft capital normally because the trading up team cant really afford to quibble at the most important position and risk losing the player) or they jump up ahead of us and help push a legit talent down the board

was feeling pretty down about our chances of a top 10 guy 2 days ago, feels a lot more possible right now

They also said they love Drew Lock.
I reckon they end up with Baker after all is said and done.
Yeah it could all be smokescreen. Personally, I think they or really any other team would be dumb not to try Baker at least. There’s talent there and the Browns have 0 leverage so you can take a swing. And if doesn’t work, you have what looks to be a much better class next year.

oooohhhh baby!!!

please give me at least 2 QBs in the top 13... please

Looking at the top of the draft, the Falcons, Seahawks, and Panthers are need QBs. Rhule is absolutely on a hot seat and needs to show something worth keeping him, so mentoring a rookie QB can be his ticket to sticking around. I could definitely see the Falcons trying to grab a high potential QB as well to properly start their rebuild. Then you have the Texans and Giants as wildcards. It'd be smart to go with David Mills another year for the Texans, but with the constant changes in coaches who knows. Giants also changed their regime so they might not be married to the idea of keeping Danny Jones around if they really like one of the top 3 in their draft.

Feel like the Falcons are the one team that makes absolutely no sense. That’s a team almost completely devoid of talent. Good chance theyre picking high again in 2023 and would have a shot at what looks to be a much better QB class right now.

Yeah think the falcons are in the tank

I think it's quite possible we end up with Jermaine Johnson and I'd be very happy with that choice.

I've seen recent mocks with Washington taking Kyle Hamilton. How in the world does he fall this far. Can you imagine Hamilton and Marcus Williams in our defensive backfield if he were to slip to us. Wow

Idk really know much when im watching college pass rushers but im gonna come on out and say jermaine johnson dnt look special at all

I thought so at first, then I saw his senior bowl and some film study with the endzone views and I think the sideline view makes it hard to see just how impactful all of his moves are, he’s so violent, he has giraffe necks for arms, pad level, leg drive, leverage are all great. He’s not a speed rusher, he’s much more of a powerful handsy bendy edge guy but he has great explosion to go with it

I think Khalil Mack when I watch him

He looks stiff to me and slow to get off the line. Youre right though, i guess i expected him to have all the moves in his arsenal but he more of a power rusher.. he probably already a great run defender

JJ does play the run well. Reminds me of the Georgia boys technically when watching him play the run. Which makes sense being that he transferred from there.

Has anyone watched Luke Fortner? Mid round C/G from Kentucky? Watched him again Georgia and he did pretty good considering the talent on that line but there was a couple reps I didn’t like

i was exactly the same as you when i first watched him (cant remember which games) but i thought he was a great run defender but with limited pass rush weapons and kinda stiff - but i always saw explosive upfield burst and the ability to separate late in the play (which is a pretty good indicator of active hand usage and counters)

but then he came and wrecked shop at the senior bowl with a massive repertoire of moves and so i went back to the tape and got digging - found some endzone angles and noticed the way he attacks tackles with a pass rush plan, saw how effective he was with his stab and then countering off the long-arm - just started to see really nuanced hand usage to stay clean through his rush (attacking weak points and timing his moves well)

he didnt pop off the screen instantly the way some of the other guys did - but the more you watch of him, the more you notice his nuance and intelligence and athleticism and how they all come together

that kentucky OL was pretty good and has 3 legit draft prospects coming out in this class: Luke Fortner at C is one of them but both tackles too - Darian Kinnard at RT and Dare Rosenthal at LT...

not got to fortner yet but seen some people talk about him as a top 100 type guy - he is an older prospect (will be 24 by the time we get to week 1) but he's also started a ton of games as a "super senior" - think he's been adding a little weight this offseason (think he weighed-in at the combine about 10lbs heavier than his listed college weight at 307lbs which is good for his prospects... 300 is that magic number)
