The Offense Thread

You all are crazy.

The simple fact of the matter is that the way our offense looked for most of the season, there isn't a single part of it that should be blamed exclusively. It was the perfect storm of ineptness all around, EVERYBODY plain sucked.

OC kept calling stupid game
QB kept missing his targets
WRs kept dropping few balls that eventually got to them
Running game was at best average

Detroit played atrociously bad against us and gave our offense the opportunity to get into rhythm and we did. Our D was getting off the field quickly early in the game and that helped a lot, too. Play calling looked smooth and not too predictable, Flacco moved better and sounded confident with his cadence. He for once anticipated and threw more accurate and timely passes in this game than for the entire season so far and as a result, WRs had more success catching and making yards after the catch. Still managed to leave a few on the field.

I refuse to be fooled though - whether we can do this consistently and against better defense remains to be seen. It was at least encouraging.

Pretty much agree with all of this adding that to gain consistency and produce against the better teams the receivers will need to play much better.

its just 1 game lol.

against 1 of the worst defenses in the league at home.

now if they can do this every game for the rest of the season then id say you could argue something really changed.

they will certainly have to do this next week again......

Pitta doesn't know the calls and he certainly wasn't here long enough to actually get into the game plan.

Sure, what he saw was probably true, but why it was the case is something Pitta will never know.

maybe filmstudy has the data to confirm this.

other then the offense executing better i have not seen much difference.
a few more drops or missed blocks and we would not be having this discussion lol

I mean, is it really any coincidence that the weeks Joe looked the most accurate we have these discussions?

Pitta is a smart guy and was in the offense for quite awhile. You can argue he wasn't this season but Marty was here last season when he was.

And it may be a possibility that he sometimes discusses football with his friend. ^_^

That was Trestman offense.

This is the first year that Marty had the chance to install his offense.

He had some other good games as well.

He actually has been pretty inconsistent during the regular season for his entire career.

Not sure why people are caught by suprise lol.

Now if he goes for 250 yards 2 TD and 0 INT at least each game for the rest of the season then yeah they might have a point.

I hate when they show Joe's completion percentage, I mean who can't complete a 4 yard pass.

Maclin: There was the incident of him shouting in Marty's face because he was fed up with the offense.
Joe: all those "air it out", "let it loose" comments. I don't think a guy that says that would be the type to throw quick 1 yards flat routes.

In a way yes.

Mostly because there was more use of the play action to set up either fakes that were designed to get TEs wide open for easy first downs (or TDs) or to simply let longer routes developp. That was very efficient because the Lions are a weak run defense and we used some deceptive packages to make them commit fully to defend the run, leaving some openings in the secondary (like Wallace being one on one with the FS on the 66 yards completion).

It wouldn't hold weight for me because why all of a sudden after 12 weeks? If this were after the bye, sure, but this was after MNF.

Joe just looked amazing and I chalk it up to that.

The lions are a very good pass defense at least. If Joe had a field day against that secondary (and not against the Pack or the Texans who aren't any better in that regard) there has to be something.

This is true. Caldwell used Cameron's offense, but the amount of passes over the middle sky rocketed under Caldwell.

But even from last year until now, the offense looks way different from last season.
