2022 NFL Combine

Tyler Linderbaum measuring in at 296lbs at 6'2 is massive for him - i dont think he's running or doing drills because of a foot injury though so maybe not the best indicator of what his playing weight will be???

Faalele just measured in too lol
6'8 380lbs (heaviest player at the combine since 2003) with 35 inch arms too

And very short arms for Linderbaum. 31 1/8 which is very t-rexish.

yeah just saw the arm length and came here to say that - 296 is very good for him (but less good if he cant prove that he can still be a supreme athlete at a heavier weight) but 31 and 1/8 is really not great, in fact it's apparently the 4th shortest by a C ever at the combine - especially worrying when longer guys are the types of pass rushers who've given him the most trouble on tape

all just to say what we already knew, which is that he's not going to be on most power/gap team boards in the 1st round

literally no idea what the point this 5 yard wave drill is - of just making these guys move like this for this long is... it's like a conditioning drill only at this point lol

if you want to test ankle flexion or change of direction why are we doing it vs space with no bags or things to target or hit and why are we doing it for more than 4 or 5 seconds?

Feel like Vederian Lowe is making himself some money today. Actually been impressed with his athleticism in the drills. Feet are a lot quicker than I thought. Still feels developmental but could come off the board early on day 3 at this point.

it's hard to take much from any of these drills tbh - guys get away with poor body positions and you get no sense of how they move with their base

and as i write this i literally just watch ekwonu game one of the drills by just moving his feet fast but not bothering covering the ground because literally the only thing these drills are testing is how quick your feet move

nothing tells you more about some of these OL drills than this lol:

schrager got a text from a coach about kenyon green that basically said he screwed a couple of the drills but OH MY GOD IS HE GOOD!!!

the drills have no real relevance to the game or gameday situations - at least the pass set drill now has an interior power-step and punch in it now - but not sure why some of these other drills dont have anything like that

like we had the TEs hitting the sleds yesterday but not the OL doing anything where they have to strike or demonstrate functional strength

Trevor Penning just ran 4.91 at 6'7 325lbs and a 1.71 10 yd split

and looks like he immediately called duke manyweather after lol - that's an awesome time for him

If we weren't so chock full at guard, Salyer would be one of the more obvious Ravens fits/picks lol - just fits everything that we look for at OL in day 2 from both a tape and measurables standpoint - now if the ravens think he can play C then he instantly becomes more viable and he does have some 2019 tape at the position

This dude is a UNIT.

idk why last night would have done anything to help him... (or any of the qbs tbh)

it's the interviews and the board work that will matter much more
I wonder what they ask them in interviews.. unless its about offensive concepts and reading defenses or what not, idk how interviews are related to field performance…

It's a multitude of things... some ridiculous and some not. But the interviews are largely classroom stuff and figuring out how they understand football. But beyond that, it's also very personality based and how they respond to some situations. Teams want to know who the person is so not everything is football in those meeting rooms. They want to know everything about these kids which is why you have some unorthodox methods.

it depends on the team and the player - but a lot of it is breaking down plays and concepts and testing their recall or asking them to talk them through their thought process on a given play (often queueing up tape too) - sometimes they'll throw in weird questions or get aggro but with the QBs it's mostly that board stuff and also getting a feel for them as people and communicators (remember these guys are being interviewed to hopefully be the face of the franchise in a lot of these cases)

Man I still think faalele is a STRONG choice in the 2nd, I just worry he A. Won’t be available for us and B. Won’t be high on our board

really intrigued to find out what trevor penning's 3 cone and shuttle come in at...

his former teammate spencer brown had a straight 10 Ras score last year with these numbers:

BrownPenning
height6'86'7
weight311325
bench29n/a
vert31.528
broad9'99'3
40 yd4.944.91
10 yd split1.691.71
3 cone6.96
shuttle4.4

for context with spencer brown's 3 cone... it's 1/100th slower than rashod bateman as an idea of just how freaky that is
penning with 14 extra lbs putting up somewhat comparable numbers (although slightly behind) is pretty cool

i expect he will be fairly high on the board... the only guy with any sort of recent comparable style and size coming out of college is orlando brown jr who had to bomb the combine to make it to our 3rd round pick

obviously orlando was further along technically but faalele's also more athletic than orlando was - especially given the difference in strengths between the 2018 and 2022 classes, not hard to imagine faalele being pretty high on the board

i still do have a little worry that 380lbs is just a ton of mass to try and redirect effectively but it's also possible that it will come with refinement of his technique

Again, this drill is dumb but you could see Tyler Smith struggle heavily there. Footwork was a mess.

Gotta get in that zone.

The “I gotta protect Lamar at all cost” zone.

i also love the way he approached his time at georgia - he was recruited to be a guard, everyone wanted him at guard but guys got injured and he played tackle and he played tackle at a high enough level that they just kept him out there even with a couple of 5 stars behind him - they only finally moved him back inside just before half-time in the national championship game and that move changed the game on offence for georgia

the combo of salyer at RG and Shaffer at LG (who's another absolute mauler in this class) went into destroy mode in that 2nd half against bama and just leaned on that bama DL and wore them down and punished them
