The way we played the last two weeks, I have to hold out hope we will get guys back and will be a better team. if not, this season will be a failure.

Tbf, losing marlon ruined the defense when wink was here too, and when Jimmy was out for pees. Marlo is a fixer, you let the problem identify itself in the pass game, and he’s on it the next series, that’s hard to replace
and that is why he's one of the best in the game today.

Harbs presser makes me think you will not see Ojabo again this week. Seems pretty obvious that he's pretty far behind the other guys in front of him. Which is honestly kinda disappointing. It doesn't seem health related or STs related at all.

Makes sense though. He got no training camp or preseason of any kind. Also, as he alluded to, who's spot is he taking on the roster at that position, especially if he's not going to play ST?

If I recall, Stanley was scratched for I believe at least 2-3 weeks before he ended up playing, and that was when he was practicing nearly every day.

You just know the Front Office is going to send Roman packing after this season, even if he doesn't get the Stanford job.

It does appear he's likely to get it though.

Ojabo has practiced without a designation for 4 weeks now. They just don't think he's ready, not a health thing.

Right, and I'm saying that shouldn't be surprising. If he went through a normal camp/preseason, he would have spent at least 4-5 weeks practicing before taking live-game reps.

And some of it, as Harbs alluded to, is roster spots. Who's place is he taking? If he's taking it from another position group, then that could be one less ST player out there that we need.

I mean if I just look at the linebacker group itself...
He's not forcing any of Queen, Roquan, Bowser, JPP, Houston or Oweh to the inactive list.
Can then look at guys like Harrison, Welch, and others, but those guys are mostly core ST players, so if they're not active, either Ojabo or one of the guys I listed above needs to fill those ST snaps.

I'm sure he'll get in there eventually, but it might take an injury to do it. Same as Kolar. Kolar is likely to be a gameday inactive for the for-seeable future because Andrews and Oliver are playing well, and Boyle still offers some value as a run blocker and as a ST player. I guess they could swap Boyle for Kolar.

i got the impression it was more numbers related - we've got Oweh, Bowser, JPP and Houston all playing well and Harrison taking some SAM snaps still in certain looks - with how low Houston's snap numbers are, Ojabo's not gonna come in and take those snaps from him and he's unlikely to come in and be a better SAM than Bowser - we're really looking at a year 1 pass rush specialist who's still raw and didnt have a training camp... they don't need him right now so they don't need to rush him

i'd personally love to see him thrown into the fire and get give 10 snaps on some 3rd and longs just to get him going and maybe accelerate his progress but i get why the coaches wouldnt want to do that until they know he's ready

Kolar is basically the exact same situation too

Don't disagree with this. An injury is the most straightforward way to get him in there. I'm annoyed that it wasn't last week. They didn't need that 6th LB that no one has ever heard of. Regardless it is what it is and this is a complete non issue if Oweh was even producing at last year's level.

I definitely believe sometime soon Kolar will replace Boyle.

Yep I get that for sure. I don't think Kolar is the same though. Because Boyle is completely useless. There are no pass rushers we have that are actually useless. I think the team potentially benefits from just one to one swapping Kolar for Boyle

Boyle's snaps on offense are slowly increasing. Still not high, but he played 10 snaps last week.

Again, I think the PS call ups at linebacker are for ST contributions. You've got a four man rotation at OLB already that's been pretty effective, so its hard to justify sacrificing ST players just to add a fifth pass rusher who won't likely play high volume.

He hasn't had a training camp and is still ramping up. Lets hope he is ready for the Steelers.

Boyle's snaps may have increased, but Likely was also inactive.

Yeah that's totally reasonable. However I think for at least one game you've gotta try. To get a sense of where he is. If he's totally garbage and of sorts right now, great shelf him. It was one game where the only sacrifice was one STs guy.

If he comes in and provides a speed rush this team does not have any really outplays Oweh in particular, you now have to factor in what to do there. Ojabo was a way higher end talent than Oweh and Oweh has just squandered this season so badly. If you could get Ojabo playing at a higher level than sophomore Oweh, I think you take it.

Not at all telling you it's going to happen. If I had to actually put money on it, I'd say their profiles are different, but they'd probably be playing on a similar level of bad. That being said it's not at all outside the realm of possibility that Ojabo is just already better than Oweh

Well, i'll say this... I think the coaching staffs perception of Oweh is wildly, wildly, wildly different than the fan bases. Oweh was among the league leaders in pressures as recent as like a month ago. I think fans just look at the sack numbers and be like "yeah, he sucks". I don't think the FO or coaching staff agrees at all, and I think there's a near 0% chance they'd make Oweh a healthy scratch just to play Ojabo. I think they'd need to see a full offseason of football between both of them to even come close to making that conclusion.

Frankly, I like the way JPP has been playing of late, but I think its significantly more likely they send him to the bench than Oweh, and I don't think either is going to happen.

Hamilton coming back will help, because he plays a decent # of ST snaps (though I wonder how long that will continue), and so you may need one less LB or ST-only contributor out there.
