2019 WR Thread

Updated top rankings:

1.) Marquise Brown
2.) Deebo Samuel
3.) DK Metcalf
4.) Hakeem Butler
5.) JJ Arcega-Whiteside/Riley Ridley
Pretty close to mine except I’m getting rid of brown and replacing him with harmon.

You really worry that much about harmon separating that he’s not even top 6?

Someone mentioned this and I agree, Harmon's game isn't predicated on speed and he has shown enough nuances in his route running that I would have no worries with us taking him and I think he creates enough separation and believe it will continue in the NFL.

I think Harmon could be a good possession WR for Lamar to grow with. It’s too bad we don’t have a second rounder because I think the majority of the quality names will be gone by our first third rounder

I agree with this, but feel we may trade out of the first round. Of course we will need a partner, but I can see it happening and if we can get a pick in this years draft in the 2nd and a pick in next years draft (2nd round atleast) than I'd be on board. I'd also take a 2nd and a 3rd in this years draft class.

D.K. Metcalf just ran a 4.33. He just solidified his 1st round status and maybe shot up the boards. I hate the 40, but seriously this big man can run.

He’s going top 15 now. Maybe even top 10

Harmon is my favorite specifically because of his style. He is extremely sure handed and where some guys can make contested catches or catches in traffic, he does both and does it with any degree of poorly thrown balls as well. He’s the type of guy who can dominate corners outside with pure catching and physicality, and can work the insides with nuanced route running and zone awareness and box out ability. He does what Snead does for us now on the inside, but does it better, while also doing what boldin used to do for us on the outside. He’s the perfect fit for lamar.

I think I'd like to retract an earlier statement of mine. This WR class isn't bad... It's not top heavy and I don't see too many #1 WRs. It's... Typical. You have a lot of WR role players who have the potential to be good NFL players, but not a lot of starts, which is typically how a class is judged. Most WR classes are going to do this

You have a couple guys who I could see turning into #1 WRs. Deebo Samuel, Parris Campbell, and Metcalf especially. Then you have the role players.. And a decent amount of them. Kelvin Harmon is someone I could see becoming a really good possesion WR at the next level. Hakeem Butler and JJ Arcega-Whiteside could be very productive in the right systems... With Arcega-Whiteside being a patriots X-WR if I've ever seen one. Emmanuel Hall is a little better than your typical deep threat in the mid rounds, but he's not perfect either and I have my concerns about him. Marqise Brown looks good, but I question his durability at the NFL level. Sure, you have guys like Hill, but dozens after him who flame out. Riley Ridley is VERY underrated in my eyes, and is a really good prospect in his own right.

In terms of potential, only a few guys could become a good #1 WR.... But I'd rank them in terms of tiers.

Tier One: Potential #1 WRs
1. Deebo Samuel, just a complete game, elusive, fast, good route runner, solid with contested balls.
2. D.K Metcalf. Physical freak. Solid tape. Poorly, poorly utilized.
3. Parris Campbell. Two words.. Game... wrecker. Interchangeable with Brown in my opinion. Underrated route runner. My favorite WR other than Samuel to pair with Lamar. He has to work on his hands, but they're not bad, and is a massive threat to take any ball he touches to the house. He's as fast as Brown and he's bigger. He works on his hands, you have yourself a guy who could go for 200 yards on you on any given day. Worst case scenario with him is that he ends up on the saints somehow and everyone fucking dies.
4. Hollywood Brown. Tape wise he's about 3rd. Good at everything, really small.

Tier 2: Safer prospects, high level #2s on the right team
5. Kelvin Harmon. I don't see a #1, but I see a guy who is going to give defenses headaches. He's' a really good route runner and good with contested balls. He's a possesion WR, and a damn good one.
6. JJ Arcega Whiteside. I'd be personally surprised if the patriots passed up on this guy. He's a patriots X-receiver if I've ever scouted one. Good route runner, good muscle threat. On the wrong team I feel like he'll be massively overlooked.
7. Riley Ridley- He's a reverse of his bro. Not as explosive but better hands and arguably better routes.
8. Terry McLaurin- He does not play as fast as his 40 time and is getting overlooked but this guy reminds me of Derrick mason so much. Quality routes, good hands, tough dude. He's not going to be a #1, but he should be good.
9. Jakobi Meyers- @allblackraven Why is no one really talking him? Thanks for turning me onto him, but I think he's going to be good.

Tier 3: role players/people who are absolutely screwed on the wrong team
10. AJ Brown: I have significant worries about his game. He's a slot guy only and a safe pick, but he has to go to the right team.
11. Emmanuel Hall: I know people like him but his tape screams "meh" to me. I've been wrong before.
12. Hunter Renfroe: Slot only guy, but a damn good one. If he ends up on a team with an elite QB look out, otherwise I think he's just going to be average.
13. Hakeem Butler: Yup.. Lo and behold your combine stud who will likely go way higher than everyone else. Unless he ends up with the Steelers the routes and the dropsies in which he has a lot of overall, scare the ever-loving crap out of me. 6'5 WR with a good 40 time who had good jumpball success in college. I've seen this movie before, people think they're getting the next Calvin Johnson, but he could easily be the next Stephen Hill, Tommy Streeter, James Hardy, etc.

And I haven't watched the rest.

I don't know. Every time I go watch NC State to see Harmon, I see a lot of Meyers, that I do know.
Another WR I really like and nobody ever mentions is Sills, WVU. Interesting that both of them are converted QBs.
