    This x 10.

You don't get quality interior pass rushers for $10.5M a year. You want somebody who will get more than 3-4 sacks a year, your opening volley is about 50% more at $15M a year, and that won't get you there in most cases either. Your Grady Jarrett's and Fletcher Cox's of the world cost $17M a year right now, and cost about double the guaranteed money Williams got.

If 2011 Haloti Ngata was playing in 2019, he's a $17-18M a year player all day long. He made more on average than Williams did when he signed his extension... only he signs his 6 years earlier, in a much different salary cap landscape.

Here's the reality... $10M a year isn't a lot to pay barely anybody in the current NFL landscape. You'll have a $200M cap next year. You're talking 5%.

I agree. I think with guys like Brandon and even Jimmy Smith (they maybe not to the higher extent since Marlon has become a stud), its pretty clear how valuable they are to the team when they're not in the lineup.

When Jimmy does come back this year, you'll see this secondary play better. Less zone coverage, more press man, allowing for more blitzing and more disguised looks on defense.

Yeah I don’t think anyone is suggesting that BWill will ever be Ngata, or get paid as such. What I’m saying is that he should be contributing more in terms of pressures and sacks for the money he is getting. He’s making similar money as guys like Heyward in Pittsburg and Gerry Hughes of the bills. Both of those guys are putting up much better numbers. I don’t know why people think that we shouldn’t expect him to contribute more while he is on the field. And that’s not to say he should become a dominant pass rusher, just get a sack or a pressure every once in a while.

He doesnt have to be dominant.. just need him to be a pass rusher lol but he isnt even that. He isnt even an inconsistent pass rusher.

A big part of our defense being disguised was because of weddle.. idk if earl can fill that role.. well atleast not yet

The bigger one was Jimmy Smith.
Let's see how Earl Thomas does once Jimmy is back.

Who in our front 7 is a consistent pass rusher? Ive never heard of a 2 gap nose tackle needing to be a consistent pass rusher, thats never been the norm its what the rest of the players on the line are meant to be doing

Im not saying he needs to be a consistent pass rusher.. im saying he legit doesnt even pass rush at all but id be okay with him if he was atleast inconsistent...I just think the 50 million contract and the fact that he has no supporting cast makes it look bad.. maybe if he had some good pass rushers around him things would look better

Our defense, at least on the back end, is based on press man coverage. Between Jimmy and Marlon, they're two of the best in the league at that.

I think its pretty clear to everybody at this point that we're not going to get much pressure on the QB bringing 4-5 guys very often. We just flat out don't have the talent on the Line or at LB to do that, and frankly, I think this team knew that by about July.

My opinion is Wink's defense, currently, is built to play man coverage on the outside, have 1-2 bodies in the middle of the field (mostly Earl and a Safety or linebacker), and basically bring pressure with everybody else. That's a 5-6 man rush in most cases. Not every play, but your obvious passing downs, I think this is what they want to do.

With Jimmy and Tavon out, you have to play more zone coverage, which means less pressure and more bodies in coverage. And our guys suck at zone coverage, especially the linebackers and safeties, who far too often freelance and bite on play fakes and combination routes.

My two cents on Williams; Brandon and the coaching staff have been together saying that he is expected to bring pressure from the day he signed his deal. Rightly or wrongly, this was an area in which he was expected to progress. The coaches said it and he said it.

Apart from that, he is getting some one on one matchups to rush the passer and I would expect him to, at the very least, move the pocket when he does get a one on one. the excuse that he is a run stuffing nose guard doesn't cut it when he is consistently stymied one on one. Pierce is the guy I see being double teamed more consistently; both in the run and pass game.

Pierce gets off blocks better, Pierce holds up at the point better vs. double teams. Brandon Williams is missed when he isn't on the field. Thats a good thing but Pierce would be missed in much the same way, I suspect. They are a tandem and to suggest by implication that Williams is worth that contract ....I don't get that.

Yeah, $10M a year for Williams is pretty damn good considering how important he is to our defense. I have no problem with the money he makes and to be honest with you he not only earned it but he deserves it as well.

And yes, Ngata is making much more in todays NFL and I think when he got his extension he became one of the highest paid defensive players.

His job is to take up blockers which he's pretty damn good at. He's supposed to clog up the middle of the line and give other players the opportunity to make plays. Our problem is guys are not taking advantage of their one-on-ones. We have/had scrubs in Bowser and Williams who just can't win at the point of attack. I can't believe we really relied on those guys.

I used to be one of those guys who wanted more from BWill in terms of that but after watching some film I saw that he did everything that he was asked to do.

It is pretty clear that the ravens expected him to contribute more as a pass rusher when he signed his contract. I don’t blame him for the contract he got. I was more upset with the FO for giving him that much money on a hope that he would contribute more. It just hasn’t happened. The worst part is they have had to restructure his contract twice to free up cap space, which increases his cap number to $14 mil/year in years 2019 - 2021.

when they moved him from 1 tech to 3 tech around the time he signed his contract, they definitely were trying to get him to contribute more as a pass rusher, but I'm not sure that is the case anymore. I was one that was in favor of signing him, but we could have signed Hankins for a better contract. I'm a BWill fan, but the contract we gave him was outrageous.
