i really think Phillips might have won the starting OL job - reading through the comments on zrebiec's latest article it's like he's walking on eggshells - they're all being very careful not to break the embargo - but the important detail that came that might be useful is that it sounds like phillips has not played a single snap at tackle this offseason (and we know that fluker has)

again maybe im overthinking it - the training camp live broadcast with the in-house guys all seem to talk about fluker so maybe i shouldnt read too much into it - maybe i just want phillips to win the job too much

i just want to see this kind of mauling block in a ravens jersey (playing at LT in this clip)

This also generally EXCLUDES COVID-19 positive tests. Those players that test positive for COVID go on the Commissioners Exempt list, get fully paid, and there's no minimum or maximum stay on the list. You get a roster exemption for certain periods that you're on the list. It could be for one week or the whole season...there's no minimum requirement.

Basically 2020 is almost an open book for roster flexibility. The only "strategy" seemingly is if you have somebody with a 1-2 week injury, what do you do with them? All of these guys that end up with like 2-4 week injuries (high ankle sprains, etc.) are going to go on IR, and they can stay for as long as they want and then come back.

I think you're going to see a pretty decent size group of guys get sent to IR end of this week or this weekend, which means the 53 man roster will probably look different than we've all been expecting. You'll see constant roster shake-ups mid-season.

Definitely a lot of concessions made this year regarding rosters. You can tell they really want most roster movement happening with guys that are already in the building as opposed to street FAs. Would think if you're a vet that gets cut this year, it's going to be harder to find a job.

If Tyre does start i think what we'll see is a continuation on a theme at RG - lots of double teams and then climbing - Tyre Phillips was absolutely dominant with double teams creating movement - if he can create that movement and then climb or allow Orlando or Skura/Mekari to climb to L2 then we're gonna see a lot of success running in his direction

I'm curious how they construct the OL and the backups if Phillips starts and it's determined that Skura needs more time and is put on IR for 3 weeks which seems to be a realistic option. Puts Mekari into the starting lineup and leaves Fluker and Bredeson as the core backups in that case. With us being able to activate 8, I'd find it hard to believe that we don't carry 8. Do you take your chances and carry Powers in that case? Or do you still go with a guy like Holden even though the swing T spot is seemingly occupied? Is Colon-Castillo a dark horse for the roster with him being a C in that case?

it's been said that colon-castillo is a dark-horse option to make the roster - bredeson has also done lots of repping at C this training camp though

i think if skura is put on i/r it likely means we carry 8 and only 8 - i dont think we carry 9 + skura - and it could be powers but given that all the linemen would be activated it may well not be because he doesnt offer any positional flexibility at all but also would be behind bredeson and fluker as next man up at the guard spots

if skura's on the roster (and stays on the roster) and phillips wins the starting role im kind of getting to a place where i think we might only keep 8 OL

Yeah that's where I'm wondering at this point. If Skura stays, you have 8. Maybe you keep Powers just to not give up on him but I'm not hurt either way. If Skura goes to IR for 3 weeks though, who is OL8? I'm not impressed by any of the options but it would have to be a bad situation if OL8 needs to actually play though.

I mean... one would assume your PS would have 1-2 OLineman on it, so whoever they like the better of the two would get the roster spot. It wouldn't surprise me if they still cut everybody they were going to cut, see how waivers shakes out, and sign who they can.

It begs to question whether they'll even make that decision by Saturday.
They can keep Skura on the 53 and just make him an inactive, if they think he's not ready yet. If its only 1-2 weeks, they'd probably find him good enough to get back as quick as they can.
They can keep him on 53 and put on IR during the week, and activate whatever PS player they want.
Or they can put him on IR now (or before Saturday) and have one more lineman make the team.

I couldn't tell you how that would be that this point, but Powers seems to fallen out of everyone's good graces it seems.

There was 3 or 4 of us rolling with different ones of her at one stage!

When did you come back to posting here? You stopped for a while after the migration as well.

Must nosey for other recognizable names

its already a bad situation if OL8 has to play - i guess its powers but it's a bad sign that he would potentially be 4th choice at G (the position he specialises in)

I'm in and out. Typically reappear around the draft and cutdown date and then disappear the rest of the year.

Yeah and that's where it makes me curious. Obviously you never want to get to OL8 but it's also not inconceivable either. Maybe you put some extra effort into Powers, maybe you go elsewhere, or maybe you just go with 7 and 6 inactives for a bit until Skura is back in 3 weeks. You also have the option of promoting from the PS for a couple of games as well. You have to be careful because guys can only go up and down twice before they're exposed to waivers and you might need them later in the season, but that's an option as well.

You aren't totally wrong lol. I love watching the games but I'm just not big on discussing them. I enjoy the aspect of roster construction and what I think would make the team best in those games even though I'm fully aware my opinion holds no weight.
