Washington was a guy many of us wondered if he'd make the team - in week 1 as a rookie he spent a lot of time on the field as a rookie and not just in the 2nd half when we'd built a lead

didnt offer much as a pass rusher but showed strength and length in the running game stacking OL and some high effort too chasing down a screen

For those interested in this sort of thing we had 3 punts in the whole game sunday and these were the gunners with Hill and Moore out:

Averett and Boykin
Averett and Duvernay
Averett and Duvernay

no guarantees hill is going to be a gunner when he comes back but we know that moore will be
if there's anything instructive at all about those 3 punts on sunday it's that averett may well be the other gunner

Prolly explains those gashes we gave up in the 1st half. I'll forgive them though since there was no preseason.

tbf 1 of those gashes came with a late substitution with calais coming on the field and it felt like we didnt really have anyone to set the edge - malik harrison was kind of in that spot but he's not a OLB so maybe it was a misalignment or maybe he was given the edge to hold on that snap and just f'ed up

there's lots to work on but i think it's fair to say that some of the gashes early were caused by newbies which are the sorts of things you expect to be ironed out

that's also probably one of the most dangerous running games in the league we just faced too

on a plus - patrick queen had the flashier first game but from what ive seen (without the coaches film yet) malik harrison might have had a better game on a fundamental level - which tbh might not be that surprising given the scouting reports many had on both of them during the process

what might be surprising but shouldnt be is that harrison is going to probably spend more time in coverage than queen this season - he's got a decent feel for it even though he's not the athletic marvel that queen is

but we're gonna see queen, clark and tavon up there at the top in terms of blitzes when the regular season ends

So our OL sucked, we lost a fumble in the red zone and faced some of the more prolific backs and receivers and won 38-6. Nice.

Got a lot of work to do. I expected all of the sloppiness. We’ll only get better. Shutdown probably the best WR duo in the league but the pressure wasn’t there. Judon getting totally pushed out of a run play by a block from Hooper was absolutely hilarious. He must have pictures of Harbs and EDC at a Christmas party because he shouldn’t even be getting 10 million, let alone 7 more.

Pertaining to Marlon don't remember where I heard it, but something to the tune of holding OBJ because he refused to give up a catch.

What are our thoughts on Boykins performance. My feeling is that he definitely played a lot and he factored in a couple of times, but I feel like he's still not on the same page as Lamar. With that being said, do we think this is in his head? If so, if he can put it together, I think he'll be a really good player. Unfortunately as a side note, Chase Claypool looks to be the better of the two to my eye. Personalities also appear to be entirely different

too early to say based on one or 2 plays he didnt make (one where if he did what charles davis said he should do he would have been short of the goal-line

he's not a sharp accelerator in and out of his breaks right now from what i can see but that's not necessarily something he needs to do - i think there's probably still some chemistry issues with lamar just in terms of timing and lamar understanding how boykin gets in and out of his breaks

but too early to say one way or the other based on this one game (especially as we still dont have any all-22 yet - this is getting ridiculous btw that it's still not been released)

Ain’t their front four ain’t nothing to scoff at.
It’s really not, idk where the notion came from that the browns defense is cheeks from top to bottom and all they have is Garrett. I understand their corners were out, but when 3 of your 4 down linemen are Myles Garrett, Sheldon Richardson, and Larry ogunjobi, then you’re literally fielding one of the best front 4 in the league. Vernon is an absolute non factor and their LB corps might be the leagues worst, but that trio is ridiculously talented
