The Good, The Bad and The Ugly - Jags edition

It looked like MP has been getting torched alot in the games we have lost. At least that is how it feels.
If one singular CB is the reason you're losing all your games your DC is actually complete ass. Especially when you have extremely high play from Marlon and the safeties to go with probably the best LB duo in the league. Not to mention Calais, Madabuike, Broderick, Houston, JPP, and Bowser.

The first one he got smoked on looked like he was playing zone and the safety was late getting over.

I agree with you that if Peters is getting toasted like that then help would have to come over the top

Lmao it's so funny in here today. Yall are not taking it well at all. Unfortunately no one should be one but surprised with how this season is going based on what's happened.

I wrote this team off after the Bucs win.
This trash ass defense cost me 4200. Needed the game to stay under 50. This is my personal reason for being pissed. The loss is whatever to me.

You would be surprised by all the City Ordinance Laws. The States Attorneys usually toss them, but that long wait sitting on a concrete floor at CBIF really really sucks. I consider it a win.
So there are laws that say if a citizen just insults you, you can arrest them? And ftr I never suggested you were a psycho or would kill over an insult lol just saying that a man in that position of authority should have the ability to absolutely remove his personal feelings from the equation, at least when it comes to simple insults.

I mean, in yesterdays game in particular, it wasn't just one corner. Stephens got picked on a lot and gave up a lot of plays.
I wouldn't say "extremely high level of play from the safeties either". Stone had his worst game by far yesterday, and having Stone and Clark in there isn't exactly all-inspiring. Basically getting safety production at similar levels to last season, and there's a reason why we invested so heavily in upgrading that.

All those players have played better, of course, but weren't good yesterday.

What I saw from the defense yesterday was a) poor tackling and angles taken by a lot of players, including both of those linebackers, b) high level play from Marlon and very pedestrian play by pretty much everybody else in the secondary and c) a quality pass rush that faded into nothingness with the game on the line.

But i dont disagree with that. So it could be a "blip" of sorts. Marcus having an off day. Geno playing his worst game as a starter. Pass rush disappearing at the end etc etc. Very well could be the case.

But it may also be that these guys who've shown they CAN be better and also have shown they can be probably worst in the league are probably playing up and down because something is schematically wrong

I'm going to look at the all-22 this week in particular, because as others have mentioned, Peters looks out of place frequently in zone coverage. I don't recall how well he did in LA or KC with such schemes, but obviously Wink didn't play much zone, and so most of his time here in BAL has been in man coverage, where I think he does a lot better.

He at least optically in live situations appears to be a lot similar to Queen in terms of flaws in zone coverage, i.e. he frequently gets lost in space and doesn't appear sure about what depth he should be at or where the proper spots to sit in the zone are.

Would also point out that a lot of the positives we've seen from Peters in the past, i.e. jumping routes and freelancing a bit at times when he thinks he has a chance to make a play on the ball, do have downsides, and I've seen a couple of those. I believe there were at least 1-2 routes yesterday where we were in zone coverage and Peters bit on the underneath route and then was subsequently beaten over the top into his zone. Now some of that could be design and errors made by the Safeties, but its hard to tell in live games.

But my overall impression from yesterday is that whatever coverage they were playing that involved Zone or Cover 2-3, there was a huge disconnect between Peters and whoever the Safety was with the over the top help. Even on the RB TD on the wheel route, just looked like nobody knew what to do.

One things for sure though... if Peters continues to struggle this much in Zone, he's gone next year. MacDonald is going to play more zone than Wink did, as well he should. I think the days of Corners being specific to either man or zone coverages are over. If you can't play both, you're not going to be nearly as effective. Offenses are too good to play one coverage consistently. Defenses have to be multiple, and so do the players.

With Hamilton, Williams and Ojabo our D will be tough. Won't need to score much.
If Stanley can get back and we're healthy in the backfield, we are still the problem.
If ojabo can come in and look amazing we have a chance.. other than that, its over before it even starts

Ive always thought MP played his best in zone cvg

If you want to throw vulgarity around in a public place where other citizens are present or yell loud enough to where it causes others to come out side and stare then you throw the ball in to my court where a simple tap of my finger and the words, “your under arrest“ is all that is required. However, I really don’t think this is the thread to discuss this. You are blowing what I originally said way out of proportion to discuss my profession. On he job, I am used to snide remarks and attitudes. I ignore all that.I am talking about threats to me and the hater abuse, like the ones that wing a bottle at my head on a car stop when my back is turned. Yeah that kinda pushes me up there pretty quick. Sorry brother, I am not there to be punkedand abused. If you think I should be then we can discuss it in another thread or you can hit me up with a message And we can discuss it there.
