They started the Burrow contract talks.

Going to be interesting how that gets done given the high ticket WR they have that needs to get paid.

I hope the NFLPA tries to hijack his negotiations

What did you think of The Poseidon Adventure?

how could I forget that one. Very well done, although I was 5 or 6 when it came out, so I had to see it later on TV, unlike the others ones that I saw in the theater.
Let's not forget about Bees, Ants, and Piranhas. The Networks loved playing those on Fridays or Saturdays at 9pm in the summer. We would put a TV on an extension cord outside and watch them. Towering Inferno and Posiedon Adventure were great, but me and my friends loved the cheesy Bees type. Svenghoolie plays them from time to time on MeTV on Saturday nights. I do miss Kung Fu Theater and the Fright Night stuff I watched as a kid. I try to show my kids that stuff, but it is SUPER cheesy compared to what they watch and they don't understand when I explain that sometimes you had to "watch tv thru snow" if you really liked the show. Damn- I'm old.

I mean OK, but what's that going to tell you? That Burrow carried the team for the entirety of the regular season and then somebody else stepped up in the playoffs? Why would that be a problem? Or is the argument that the defense, which basically didn't show up much during the season, miraculously shows up in the playoffs?

If we add context to it, its even worse.
Like the 2022 Bengals D played Tyler Huntley at home, an extremely limited Bills offense in the snow, and then lost to Mahomes. The defense did exactly what you thought it would do against two pedestrian offenses (with weather) at that point. It played good but not great.

The 2021 Bengals D played Derek Carr and Ryan Tannehill in the playoffs, then won a pedestrian defensive game against Mahomes.

Like at least 3-4 of their playoff games the last two years, they played average or below average offenses. In some cases, anemic ones.
They lost to the Raiders.

I’ve never understood obsession with pure nfl pay contracts. Take “less” to get a better team and better sponsors of you are a qb. 250 mil vs 220 mil over 5 with a better team and contract language letting you do more commercials lol

People will argue that statement with “if you preformed well Wouldn’t you want to be the highest payed?”

Idgaf if I make under market value if you offer me 50 mil in stock options on the side!

There was a rugby team in Australia that was giving it's players boats and cars on the side. They had a couple of championships stripped of them once they got caught. They are like the Pats of Aussie rugby so it was a great day when the news broke

The funniest bit was that the official numbers amounted to less than AU$3 million over a 5 year period.

And, for the posterity, it was a rugby league club. Rugby club would never do shady stuff like that.

Why do you need contract language to allow for commercials? Why would that be a part of the contract?

Also, where does the "take less" mantra stop? Is it only for the most expensive players, or does it apply to cheaper guys too? Like why should the guy playing for $2M not take less and play for $1M?

The other "fallacy" is that taking less $ doesn't mean the team will even spend the $ or that it will necessarily translate into a better team. They could spend it on a player who sucks, gets injured, etc., or the Owner could just opt to not spend it at all.
